How Joe Biden's Love For Cars Has Influenced The Auto Industry

Joe Biden is a car guy. He has always loved to drive. He likes speed and use to think he was pretty good at driving.

Joe Biden's connection with cars dates back to when his dad ran an auto dealership. "It was great having a dad at the dealership because every prom, you had a brand new car", says Joe.

He still owns a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray acquired as a wedding gift from his dad.

Although for security purposes, it is forbidden by the secret service to allow the president to drive, Joe Biden's love for cars will never wane. Instead, he channels his passion into supporting the auto industry.

During the Obama administration, as vice president, Biden helped rescue the auto industry from the brink of extinction and saved thousands of jobs.

As president, he signed the infrastructure bill into law on November 15, 2021. The law provides funding for investments in electric vehicles[EVs] and it is expected to inspire more Americans to buy EVs and manufacturers to produce them.

He could not conceal his optimism about the future of America on his visit to the recently concluded 2022 Detroit Auto Show. "you all know I am a car guy. Today I visited the Detroit Auto Show and saw firsthand the electric vehicles that give me so many reasons to be optimistic about our future", as shared on Instagram.

When asked the famous "What do you do for a living?" question, Joe Biden, in an electric Cadillac jokingly replies, "Well, I am married to Jill Biden and I make sure we are making a lot more electric vehicles in America".

Joe Biden believes that by moving to electric vehicles, the US can own the 21st century auto market.

African Records At The World Cup

"The fact that Messi has the most ballon d'Or doesn't make him a better player than Ronaldo." "Relax, neither player has won the World Cup." Football conversations are usually incomplete without banters. Such is the case with African sport lovers.

Football is the most popular sport in Africa. The passion for football compared to other sports is so profound that most male Africans grow up kicking the ball. It is a source of livelihood. Many families have been pulled out of poverty through football as it serves as a legitimate escape route. In a diverse country like Nigeria for instance, it is regarded as a strong unifying force. Everyone seems to discard their ethnicity when the Super Eagles have a match.

Big leagues in Europe, in particular the English Premier league boasts massive following in Africa. Many of the continents finest talents ply their trade in these coveted leagues. African footballers are sort after not just for the talent they possess but also for their pace and athleticism.

Meanwhile, football enthusiasts find time to keep themselves up to date with the progress of their favourite teams on regular visits to viewing centres, which are generously dispersed in almost every location from luxury hotels to makeshift shacks.

"Mo Salah is the greatest African to have played in the EPL." "Is Didier Drogba a joke to you?" At the point of viewing, disputations characterised by fierce arguments and playful banters ensue between fans of opposing teams.

Despite the passionate following and endowment of abundant talent no team from Africa has progressed beyond the World Cup quarter final stage. Certain challenges have been observed to be detrimental factors impeding the advancement of African teams at the World Cup. These include; Poor funding, poorly developed domestic leagues, government interference, non-existence of defined structures for football development, lack or limited access to sport facilities, FAs owing or withholding match allowances, to name a few.

The FIFA World Cup is the most watched football event in the world, attracting more than 3 billion viewers around the globe, Africa inclusive. The World Cup is organised every 4 years. 32 teams allotted into groups participate in the tournament. Teams advance from the group stage through the knock out stage to the final. A winner emerges after 4 weeks and is awarded the golden trophy. 5 Teams represent Africa.

Mentioned below are some notable African records at the World Cup;

Thirteen African countries have competed in the FIFA World Cup since Egypt's first participation in 1934. It took 36 years for an African country to qualify for another world cup, Morocco(1970).

Qatar 2022 will be Cameroon's 8th Appearance in the final rounds of the World Cup. Highest record for an African Team.

The duo of Cameroon's Rigobert Song and Samuel Eto'o have appeared in 4 World Cups. Song played in 1994, 1998, 2022 and 2010. Eto'o played in 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014.

Ghana's Asamoah Gyan holds the record for the most goals scored by an African player in the World Cup. He scored a total of 6 goals in 3 consecutive editions; 2006, 2010, 2014. One goal against Czech republic in 2006. 3 goals against Serbia, Australia and USA in 2010. 2 goals against Germany and Portugal in 2014.

Nigeria have the most goals scored by an African team in the World Cup. The Super Eagles have scored 23 goals in all World Cup tournaments since their first participation in 1994.

Nigeria have won 6 World Cup matches. The most win for an African team.

Egypt's goalkeeper, Essam El-Hadany was 45 years 5 months and 10 days old when he started for Egypt against Saudi Arabia in the final group match at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, making him the oldest player to feature in the world cup.

Legendary Roger Milla of Cameroon became the oldest player to score a World Cup goal when Cameroon played against Russia in 1994. He was 42 year 1 month and 10 days old. Russia won by 6-1.

Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o was 17 years 3 months and 7 days old when he featured for Cameroon in 1998, making him the youngest African to appear in a World Cup game.

Only 3 African Countries have advanced to the quarterfinal stage; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

South Africa hosted the world cup in 2010. The first African country to host the World Cup.

Abdulrahman Fawzi of Egypt is the first African to score at the World Cup in 1934. He scored both goals in a 2-4 loss against Hungary.

Morocco is the first African team to draw a World Cup match. The match ended 1-1 against Bulgaria in 1970.

In 1978, Tunisia won Mexico by 3-1 making them the first African country to win a World Cup match.

Abdelmajid Chetali of Tunisia is the first African coach at the World Cup(1978).

Cameroon is the first African team to reach the quarterfinals in 1990.

In 2014, Nigeria's Stephen Keshi became the first African coach to reach the rounds of 16.

Morocco is the first African Team to reach the round of 16(1986).

Senegal is the first team to be eliminated due to fair play points tiebreaker(2018).

Provided the challenges mentioned earlier are surmounted, do you think African teams can improve on these records, perhaps win the World Cup?

Can Gun Control Legislation Actually Prevent Mass Shootings?

My thought and prayers go to the victims of mass shootings in  Atlanta, Boulder, California and..... no one knows when the next shooting will take place.

The united state among developed countries ranks highest in mass shooting incidents. Amidst this, Americans are divided over the proposal of gun control laws aimed at addressing this social epidemic.

Republican senator, Ted Cruz insists that gun control won't do anything to stop gun violence. He further added that “If you want to stop these murders, go after the murderers.”

If we go by the "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument, what will be the fate of the murdered after the assailant is apprehended and brought to justice? Can justice bring the dead back to life?

Citing the Atlanta shooting incident, democrat senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut argued that without access to a weapon, the shooter is just a racist and a misogynist. But armed with a firearm, purchased that very day, he is a monster — a mass murderer.

According to the study carried out by theconversation.com it was gathered that gun control laws such as background check requirements and assault weapon bans reduced the number of mass shooting in the United States by only a small amount.
And laws that remove an individual’s right to own firearms if that individual poses a risk to the community do not affect the number of mass shooting events.

Views may differ depending on individual perception; however each argument seems valid as there exists data to backup the claims above. What if we look beyond gun control legislation? What if there are other factors that can be harnessed to effectively prevent mass shootings?

Tips To Protect Yourself And Those Around You From The Spread of Coronavirus Disease

Below are several methods you can adopt to protect yourself and others from getting the new corona virus.

Frequently clean your hand by using an alcohol based product like gel or wash your hand with soap and water

Avoid over-reliance on hand sanitizers. All other safety precautions are equally important.
Wash your hands regularly.

Maintain at least 2meters distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
Avoid staying in crowds.

Use of face masks may not provide total protection against Coronavirus. Practicing everyday precautionary measures remains the best form of prevention.
Stop panic buying of masks. They are only necessary if you develop symptoms like sneezing and coughing.

Cover your mouth and nose with your flexed elbow or tissue-paper when coughing and sneezing. Then dispose of the used tissue-paper immediately.
Always practice good respiratory hygiene.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
Promote good personal hygiene.

Antibiotics do not work against viruses. Don't use as a means of prevention or treatment of COVID-19.
If you develop symptoms like headache, cough, or slight running nose, seek medical attention immediately and inform the office in advance.
Avoid self-medication.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are feeling unwell, seek medical attention.

Characterizing COVID-19 as a "PANDEMIC" is not an indication that the virus has become deadlier. Rather, it is an acknowledgement of the disease's geographical spread.
Stay calm and continue to follow all precautionary measures.

Drinking alcohol or spraying chlorine all over the body will not kill viruses that have already entered the body system.
Under appropriate guidelines, chlorine and alcohol can only be useful to disinfect surfaces.

Regularly rinsing your nose with salt-water does not prevent against respiratory infections, including COVID-19.
Avoid substance abuse.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early and share information about any recent travels with your health care provider.

If you just have mild respiratory symptoms and no specific travel history, carefully follow the precautions explained above and make sure you stay home until recovery.

Together, we shall defeat the virus

MAN BUYS GOOGLE

Man buys Google.com for $12 for 1 minute, gets reward

A man who bought the Google.com domain name for $12 and owned it for about a minute has been rewarded by Google for uncovering the flaw.

Student and former Google (GOOGL) employee Sanmay Ved was able to buy Google.com for the small sum due to an administrative issue at the search giant.

He was surprised to find the domain up for sale and when he went to buy it, the $12 transaction went through and the ownership of the search site was transferred.

But within about a minute the purchase had been canceled and Ved's money was refunded.

"Google could do this given the registration service used by me (aka Google Domains) belonged to Google," Ved wrote in a blog post on LinkedIn.

The ex-Googler flagged the flaw to the search giant's security team and they rewarded him with an as-yet undisclosed sum of money. When they found out Ved was going to give the bounty to charity, Google doubled the amount.

"I wrote back and told them it was never about money, and asked that the money be donated to charity to the Art of Living India Foundation," Ved wrote.

"They have replied and have stated that they understand and respect the fact that this was not about getting a reward. Despite that, given what they found, and how this was handled, they are 'excited' to offer me a reward."

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Giving money to people who flag up potential security or administrative flaws is a common practice at Google and other tech companies. It's known as a "bug bounty".

Ved's story is the latest in a long line of domain name-related news around Google. After Google officially became a subsidiary of Alphabet, it acquired the domain name abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.com.
